The B-10 Bomber Jacket

What is the B-10 Bomber Jacket?

The B-10 Bomber Flight Jacket is known as the fighter pilot’s flight jacket. It was the first cloth-shelled, alpaca fur-lined flying jacket of the U.S. Army Airforce. The cloth of the B-10 Bomber jacket is an adaptation of the US Navi G1 pattern with some modifications. This piece of clothing is set up for hard wear.

B-10 Bomber Jacket History

According to History Preservation, this piece of clothing was developed as a replacement for the leather A-2 and sheepskin B-6 flight jackets. These were an instant success because of how lighter and more versatile it was than that of the 2 it replaced.

This flight jacket was standardized for service in July 1943 but was not used for actual combat until March 1944. It was the 8th Air Force in England that received the initial issue which came with the A-9 Toursers.

The official lifespan of the bomber jacket was rather short, however, and then was then replaced by the newer B-15 flight jacket.

B-10 Bomber Jacket Features

The B-10 Bomber jacket is lighter and more versatile. This flight jacket was intended for wear in climates between 22 degrees - 52 degrees Fahrenheit and was ideally suited for early spring, late fall, and winter.

Apart from its slick style, fighter pilots would choose this because it was less bulky and provided more comfort when they were in their cramped cockpits.

Reminiscent of the G-1, this is cloth-shelled, and has an alpaca fur collar, a zip closure, and similar pockets.

How do you style a B-10 Bomber Jacket?

Classic Casual: Pair it with jeans, a simple t-shirt, and sneakers or boots. Embrace the jacket’s heritage. Keep it relaxed.
